The curse of glucose

Gwen is having some problems maintaining her temperature and blood sugar.  Since she's so tiny she doesn't have the fat stores most babies do.  She also hasn't figured out the coordination required for feeding, so she's had a few feedings via a feeder tube.  She's doing really well with the exception of the fact that she's just so tiny - her color and responsiveness are both good, breathing is fine, etc.

She did have a slight drop in blood glucose overnight that necessitated an IV to deliver the sugar she needs.

She just had her morning checkup and the doctor is pleased with her.  Her temperature and blood glucose have stabilized and Jenn and I were just taking turns holding her.  She'll be in the NICU all day today; once she starts eating we can get rid of the tubes and take her back to the room.  That may not happen until tomorrow, though.  There's no worries, she's got a wonderful staff taking care of her.  Also, these are common complications when a baby is this small.

There's no reception in the building, so phones aren't really working.  I had to run out to get food (and coffee - must have coffee) but will be heading back shortly.

This is a heckofa tiny baby.  I've never been around another baby this small, much less held one.  She's adorable, though.  And this isn't just a father's bias, really.
